I borrowed twenty dollars from a friend in my home town
So I could record some songs I'd written and play them all around
And when a big star finally cuts one, hell, you know I'll be set
Right now my future's riding on a Memorex cassette

All my best songs are on there
And I'm hoping that they sell
Right now they don't think I'm anything
They ain't heard me yet

Gonna take them down to Music Row in Nashville, Tennessee
